What is telemarketing business registration?

• Unless your total number of transactions in the previous year was under 50 or you are a simplified taxpayer, you are required to register as a telemarketing business.
• After business registration, you can apply for telemarketing business registration online through Government 24 or in person at your local district office.
• You will need the following documents when you apply:
  • For all applicants: a copy of the business registration certificate, ID of the representative
  • Sole proprietors: proof of use of purchase safety service (escrow certificate)
  • Corporations: proof of use of purchase safety service (escrow certificate), certified copy of corporate registration, corporate seal, certificate of corporate seal impression
• After registering as a telemarketing business, you must pay a registration license tax once a year under the Local Tax Act.
  • The amount depends on your business location, up to a maximum of 40,500 KRW.
  • You can pay in person, via WETAX, or by bank transfer.
  • The tax is imposed at the time of your initial telemarketing business registration and then every January.

How to obtain a proof of use of purchase safety service

• A purchase safety service (escrow), as defined in Article 24-2 of the Electronic Commerce Act, is a service that ensures consumer purchase safety when the consumer chooses to use a payment deposit service or when the telemarketing business operator has taken out consumer compensation insurance or a similar arrangement.
• If you have a corporate account and an accredited certificate, you can sign up for an escrow service and obtain the certificate through NH NongHyup, IBK Corporate Bank, or KB Kookmin Bank. For detailed procedures, please refer to each bank’s guide.
